Official toll rises from 58 to 73; 14 remain missing
Shabwa authorities raised their reported death toll from the October 19 training-camp attack to 73 on October 20, Reuters reported, citing the provincial media office. Fourteen people remained missing. Government-run Saba also published Governor Awad al-Wazir’s revised count. The 73 replaces the 58 in our previous update; these are successive totals for the same attack and should not be added together. Both reports attribute the figures to local officials, without independently confirming the death toll. Missing people are listed separately from confirmed fatalities.

Governor’s revised toll replaces earlier count of 53 deaths
Shabwa Governor Awad al-Wazir reported 58 deaths, more than 200 injuries and 14 people missing following the October 19 strike on al-Alam security training camp, Reuters reported that evening. The death toll updates the 53 reported in our earlier coverage; both figures concern the same attack and must not be added together. Yemen Monitor subsequently reported the same figures from the governor’s television interview. Both accounts attribute the totals to him, providing no independent confirmation of the count. The 14 missing people are separate from his reported death toll.

Higher provisional toll reported; hospitals transfer wounded patients
Shabwa authorities reported a preliminary toll of 53 recruits killed and more than 200 wounded in the October 19 missile strike on al-Alam camp, according to government-run Saba. These figures update the earlier provisional account of at least 20 deaths and 24 injuries; they concern the same attack and should not be added together. AP also reported 53 deaths, attributing its account to Yemeni officials. The Houthis acknowledged targeting the camp. Separately, DW cited AFP quoting deputy governor Fahad al-Khalifi saying local hospitals were overwhelmed and some seriously wounded patients had been transferred to other provinces.

A missile attack on al-Alam camp in Yemen’s Shabwa province killed at least 20 soldiers and wounded at least 24 on October 19, military officials told AP. Reuters reported at least 18 deaths, citing four government and medical sources. These provisional accounts concern the same attack and must not be added together. Military spokesman Col. Aden al-Ghad separately reported wounded soldiers arriving at Shabwa’s general hospital without providing a precise count.
