Justices pause the lower-court order while the legal challenge continues
The US Supreme Court voted 6–3 to pause a district-court order blocking the expanded SAVE citizenship-verification system, allowing federal officials to offer it for voter-roll checks while the appeal proceeds. The unsigned decision said the challengers’ claims likely lack merit; Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented. This is interim relief, not a final judgment on the system’s legality. States are not required to use SAVE, and federal law generally prohibits systematic voter removals within 90 days of a federal election.
