Hourly pollution rises despite a lower daily index
Singapore’s one-hour PM2.5 readings reached the high band in four regions at 2 p.m. Singapore time on October 17, CNA reported. Concentrations were 243 micrograms per cubic metre in the west, 179 centrally, 162 in the south and 159 in the east. The 24-hour PSI ranged from 135 to 185, below Friday’s peak of 229. The indicators cover different periods: hourly PM2.5 describes current air quality, while NEA recommends the 24-hour PSI forecast for next-day planning. Separately, NEA said on October 16 that it had sent seven Indonesian companies preventive notices requiring firefighting, cessation of burning and action plans. It cited indications that smoke from concession lands could have reached Singapore; the notices do not establish criminal liability.
