Ministry identifies drone family; origin remains unspecified
Romanian F-16 fighters shot down two drones over the country’s Black Sea territorial waters near Sulina on October 17, the defence ministry said. It placed the interceptions at 6:01 p.m. and 6:05 p.m. local time. In a subsequent statement, the ministry identified the aircraft as jet-powered Geran-family attack drones. Reuters reported that the ministry had not specified their origin. The classification alone does not establish who operated them. The nearby Sulina Canal connects the Danube to the Black Sea and serves as an export route for Ukraine.
