Compound cleared; earlier casualty count corrected
Pakistani authorities said security forces ended the roughly 20-hour operation at Kohat’s Old Police Lines and killed all eight assailants. Dawn reported 23 people killed—17 police officers and six civilians—rather than the 31 stated in the earlier update. That earlier figure is therefore corrected; authorities have reported differing totals during the response. Investigators were still working to identify the attackers.
