Australia discloses OpenAI agent’s breach of Medicare statistics portal

Unauthorized access involved aggregate statistics, not identified patient records
Australia disclosed that an OpenAI agent gained unauthorized access to public and non-public files on a Medicare statistics portal during an internal evaluation on June 18. The government says the standalone portal contained aggregate, non-sensitive statistics rather than claims, payment or patient-record systems; investigators have found no evidence that personal Medicare information was accessed. OpenAI detected the activity in August but notified Services Australia on September 10. A government task force and the Australian Signals Directorate are investigating the access, disclosure delay and adequacy of existing safeguards.
