New estimates indicate heavy losses at the Dioura military camp
Two sources told Reuters that more than 100 Malian soldiers were killed in the September 10 attack on the Dioura military camp. A security source estimated 130 deaths and more than 100 soldiers taken hostage; a diplomatic source estimated about 120 deaths. Mali’s army acknowledged fatalities while reporting an evacuation and retaliatory operation, but released no casualty total. The estimates and an insurgent claim of 150 deaths have not been independently verified.
