Irish privacy regulator fines Google €403 million over location-data processing

DPC orders compliance within six months after finding GDPR breaches
Ireland’s Data Protection Commission fined Google €403 million and ordered it to bring its location-data processing into compliance with the GDPR within six months. The regulator found breaches involving lawfulness, fairness, transparency, accountability and data retention across Web & App Activity, Location History and Android Location Accuracy. The inquiry examined processing from May 25, 2018, through February 4, 2020, so the decision concerns historical practices rather than establishing that Google’s current policies contain the same violations. Google said it has updated its practices since 2019. The DPC has not yet published its full decision.
