Four-count conviction is the court’s first involving a Seleka member
International Criminal Court judges convicted former Seleka commander Mahamat Said Abdel Kani on four crimes-against-humanity counts arising from abuses at a Bangui detention facility in 2013. He was found guilty of crimes including torture, persecution and unlawful imprisonment but acquitted of three war-crime counts. The verdict is the ICC’s first conviction of a Seleka member. A separate hearing will determine his sentence.
