Leaders announce renewed joint work after Brussels meeting
Hungary and Ukraine agreed to resume joint work and exchange visits after their leaders met in Brussels on October 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, according to Euronews. Reuters reported that Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar described an agreement to reset relations after their first official bilateral meeting. Further ministerial talks are expected. Earlier in the week, Ukraine passed legislation expanding native-language education rights for Hungarian speakers and other minorities. Hungary subsequently dropped objections to further EU accession talks, which opened on October 13. Friday’s announcement adds renewed bilateral cooperation to those earlier developments. A possible Zelenskyy visit to Budapest remains unconfirmed.
