Five manufacturers begin taking orders for Android-based laptops
Google opened preorders September 21 for its Googlebook laptop category, with the first models from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo starting at $899. The devices combine an Android software foundation with desktop elements from ChromeOS and built-in Gemini tools; Intel and Qualcomm processors are available across the range. US retail availability begins October 4, followed by six other markets October 5. The launch turns Googlebook, unveiled earlier this year, into a purchasable product, although independent long-term testing was not available in the retrieved coverage.
