Energy inflation accelerates while core inflation holds steady
Eurostat’s November 4 flash estimate put euro-area annual inflation at 4.0% in October, up from September’s 3.8%. Energy inflation accelerated to 20.8% from 18.9%. Inflation excluding energy stayed at 2.3%, while the measure excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco held at 2.5%. The headline acceleration therefore coexisted with unchanged annual inflation in both exclusion measures. The headline increase was 0.2 percentage points between annual rates; the separate estimate of prices rising during October was 0.4%. The figures remain provisional.
