Study begins assessing Ervebo against Bundibugyo virus
A vaccination study involving frontline workers began in Bunia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, on September 19. BRAVO plans to enroll 20,000 workers in Ituri and North Kivu and follow them for at least six months to assess whether Ervebo protects against the Bundibugyo virus driving the outbreak. Ervebo is licensed for Zaire ebolavirus; its effectiveness against Bundibugyo in humans remains unestablished. A separate allocation provides 50,000 doses for health and frontline workers.
