Politburo approves expulsions and transfers cases for prosecution review
China’s Politburo approved the expulsion of former senior generals Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from the Communist Party after military authorities had already expelled them from service. Party investigators alleged that both accepted substantial bribes, improperly assisted promotions and committed other disciplinary violations. Their cases will undergo review by military prosecutors; the allegations have not been independently adjudicated, and the party expulsions still require Central Committee confirmation. Zhang was formerly China’s highest-ranking uniformed officer.
